Bullying at School

Join and Support our ANTI BULLYING PROJECT IN VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

Bullying at school can take many forms, and it's not always obvious. Here are some common examples that illustrate the range of behaviors students might face:

🗣️ Verbal Bullying

  • Name-calling, teasing, or mocking someone's appearance, accent, or interests

  • Spreading rumors or gossip

  • Threatening or intimidating language

🧠 Psychological/Emotional Bullying

  • Purposefully excluding someone from group activities or social circles

  • Manipulating friendships to isolate a peer

  • Public humiliation or shaming

🧍 Physical Bullying

  • Hitting, kicking, pushing, or tripping

  • Stealing or damaging someone’s belongings

  • Spitting or other aggressive physical acts

💻 Cyberbullying

  • Sending hurtful messages or images online

  • Creating fake profiles to harass or impersonate someone

  • Posting embarrassing photos or videos without consent

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Prejudicial Bullying

  • Targeting someone based on race, religion, gender identity, or disability

  • Using slurs or discriminatory language

  • Mocking cultural practices or beliefs

Real-Life Example

One heartbreaking case involved an 8-year-old girl named Miriam who was bullied for being overweight. Her classmates mocked her, stole her snacks, and compared her to animals on her backpack. Despite reporting it to teachers, the bullying continued, leading to severe emotional distress and hospitalization for anorexia.

These examples show how bullying can deeply affect a student’s mental health, academic performance, and sense of safety.
